Abstract/Description
Elwood Higginbotham's Death Certificate reflects that he was lynched by a mob on September 17, 1935. Higginbotham's name is here spelled "Higginbottom." The informant is his stepfather, Dunbar Hill. The certificate was completed by Lafayette County sheriff S.T. Lyles. Notably, sheriff Lyles recorded the "operation" involved in Higginbotham's death as "rope and bullets."
